Importance of culture and tourism

Dear Editor,

India is a land of varied culture, religions and people and the social structure of the country and religious beliefs of the people attract the tourists from all over the world.

Culture has always been a major attraction of the tourists. Like the other tribal culture, the Tagin culture also has been playing very importance role in the progress and prosperity of the society. Tagin people have their own way of life which is highly being appreciated by the tourists. Since time immemorial Tagin community is known for its straight forwardness, truthfulness, courageous and highly hospitable nature. Their way of welcoming the guests by serving them Opo (rice beer), foods and meat speak volume of  their respect to the guests.

Traditional dresses of Tagin like “Tase Rame” and “Lakbung” are very attractive and wonderful items for tourists. In present day, these dresses are used for presenting gift to the chief guest and guest of honour of Si-Donyi Festival in Tagin. The arts and crafts of Tagin add the richness of its culture which can also equally be applied in tourism development of the state. Cultural programmes of Tagin play an important role in tourism development at all level in Arunachal Pradesh.

Traditional and cultural dances of Tagin like Si-Ome, Achi Riabu, Ani Chune, Takar Gane, etc. are also very popular in Arunachal Pradesh. The folk dance and folk song of Tagin are as much important as the folk songs and dances of other tribes of  the country.

The department concerned may take step for special cultural heritage package for tourists to help them explore the rich culture of the Tagin community which will ultimately  promote tourism in Arunachal Pradesh. The delicious food being cooked in Bamboo may be offered to tourist as special cuisine. Such preparation of food items is very rare in Arunachal Pradesh and this may also attract large number of tourists in festive occasion.

The Si-Donyi festival of Tagin on 3rd-6th January every year attracts large number of tourist in Arunachal Pradesh. The date and month of Tagin Festival is very appropriate and suitable to every visitor because it falls in the month of January which is the best time for tourist to enjoy their winter holiday.

The Tagin festival has a high degree of importance because this occasion simultaneously serves the purpose of three main important events; i.e. adieu to the elapsing year, welcome to the New Year and observation of the festival itself.

Tourist can gather many new information and experience from Tagin culture. There are many hidden knowledge in Tagin mythology. So far no one has tried to work out the mysterious information found in the Tagin Si-Donyi mythology. So this can be point of attraction for tourist in Tagin area.

I appeal  to the Arunachal Pradesh Govt especially department of Tourism make proper policy and programme for the promotion of Tagin culture and also give due importance to Tagin area for development of cultural tourism.

Last but not least I also request our Tagin people, know your culture and preserve it.

Yours

Tacha Lusi Sorum,

Daporijo

There are good things too

Dear Editor,

It was enlightening to go through  the thought- provoking informative article titled, ‘Do we have the guts?’ written by Tom Simai. I’m in complete concurrence with  Simai that Arunachal as a state has ‘The Potential’ to generate millions of dollars for the State exchequers. What is the present Government doing? I reckon its harnessing that potential – Hydropower.

I would be very pleased if critics are wise enough to suggest a revenue source apart from Hydropower. Suggest the Government one source that doesn’t have it demerits. As far as I’m aware in keeping with the universal phenomena of interdependence there can never be something at the cost of nothing. It is very easy to suggest someone that something is not right but the virtue is in giving the solution.

In progress we are in no comparison to other states, sad but true. Now, the Big QUESTION is why?

* Until recent past we have been rendered step-motherly treatment by the Center.

* Absence or deprived Communication Systems – Transportation and Telecommunication. It is true that man has conquered the highest mountain and reached the moon but railways lines haven’t yet reached our State leave alone Airports. For a State like ours, Railways and Airports are too much to ask where even good roads would be a luxury. Apart from Itanagar, in rest of the Districts mobile network is conked which I guess requires no explanation. I never realized until I was back home that there can be such as network problems even when the signal is full. It’s not been long that we have had access to the World Wide Web.

* Too little population. For any business to sustain and boom it requires demand and demand is proportional to population.

* Absence of Industries or Companies as there is shortage of man power, resources and the State Government policies on land acquisition, ILP (Inner Line Permit) policy etc. Take for example our own country after the economic liberalization in the early 1990s, there has been exponential economic growth.

* Monopolization of the former Government for more than two long decades. What has that Government done in 20 odd years of its ruling? We have to pull up our socks as there is loads of unfinished work to wrap up. Others are 20 years ahead of us.

* You and I. Ask, what is our contribution towards the prosperity and dilapidation of our motherland? John F. Kennedy in one of his inspirational speech said, “... ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country”. At the least lets stop grumbling and bragging at a 'Potential' in progress if we have no alternative.

* There are no adequate higher educational institutions viz: Engineering and Medical Institutions.

Economically we may be backward, however there are good things that we can take pride in- things that money can’t buy. It’s the most peaceful State in India with the absence of terrorists, insurgents and gangsters from the region. A woman enjoys the liberty to walk freely even past mid night. In an era where global warming and deforestation has become a international concern, Arunachal is one of the most densely populated forests State in India. In spite of the outsized diversity in tribe, religion and dialects there has been no disrespect of these differences and have lived in harmony through the ages.

Be optimistic and we will notice that the half filled glass as half full.

Yours’

Nima Khenrab

Tawang
